Alternate Exercises & A TKR

It’s been 17 months since my tkr and I “discovered” something that helps my bend. As I’ve mentioned before, I love walking. And, I know that riding an upright bike is great for increasing my bionic knee’s flexibility.

A couple of weeks ago I rode my exercise bike (actually, I hung on to the handlebars and cringed every time I’d do a rotation) for about 5 minutes. Then, I felt like taking my daily walk. Well, I need to go downstairs in order to get to the front door. So…

As I take the first couple of steps, I notice that there is little pain. And, it is much easier to walk those stairs. Wow. The exercise bike really helped with the stair fiasco (er…descending stairs).

Now if only there was a way to make going up stairs easier. 😕 It’s all still better than before my tkr, though.

Thought I’d share this in case it helps anyone else.

  • I seem to have less trouble going up the stairs, I can alternate legs, but going down takes twice as long because I can’t put my TKR down with the other foot still on the step.

Handrails are a lifesaver, too……I was never a graceful person to begin with, and I feel even more clumsy and ungainly now…, I have to be oh, so careful!!!

  • lol, just realized I said that backwards…..I can’t put my right leg down with the TKR foot still on the step, b/c it won’t bend enough……
