Denis Savard Fired by Chicago Blackhawks

Today, while watching NHL Live!, hockey fans were made aware of the fact that long-time player, and current Head Coach of the Original Six team – Chicago Blackhawks – was fired.

After the team winning the first four games of the current season, this firing leaves a lot to be desired. Something had to be in the making prior to this occurrence.

In my opinion, the management team’s behavior of the Chicago Blackhawks leaves a lot to be desired. How low class can one get? They have every right to fire someone, but in this manner? And…of such a popular long-time ex-player? After winning four straight? Come on…

On the opposite polar, is the class exhibited by Denis Savard. Hours after being fired, he allowed a phone interview by EJ Hradek and Don LaGreca of NHL Live! I was shocked when I saw that he was on the phone ready to conduct an interview with the hockey news team. And, he did not bad-mouth the Chicago Blackhawks management at all. That could have been so easy for him to do. Not one snide comment was made by Savard. It took a lot of guts, in my opinion, to even make that call and conduct the interview. And, to do it with such style and intelligence is remarkable. That’s pure class.

I know from firsthand experience, the last thing one wants to do after being fired is to talk kindly about the organization that canned them. But, Savard did just that. It’s no wonder he is such a popular hockey person with both fans and media.

It saddens me that the Chicago Blackhawks are associated with Scotty Bowman. Scotty Bowman is a class act and someone I will never “bad mouth”. And to think…he’s with that management team of full of losers.
