Manny Legace of St. Louis Blues Assigned to AHL

Here is some NHL hockey news I found on the site about one of my favorite goalies, Manny Legace….

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 7 (UPI) — St. Louis Blues goaltender Manny Legace, an NHL all-star last season, has been demoted to the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League.

In a season filled with poor play in net, the 36-year-old Legace, an eighth-round NHL draft pick in 1993 by the Hartford Whalers, also has dealt with a hip injury.

He cleared waivers Friday, then was demoted Saturday morning.

“I’ll go to Peoria and help them try and win a cup down there,” he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “Helping out (Blues goalie prospect Ben Bishop) down there will be great. I don’t care where you are … if you can win a championship, it’s going to be fun. That’s where my head has to be.”

This season, Legace had compiled a record of 13-9-2 with a 3.18 goals-against average and an .885 save percentage.

The Toronto native was in the final year of a deal that paid him $2.5 million this season.
