Memories Of An Effervescent Muumuu

Hi my favorite readers! I thought it would be fun to share some information about muumuus and my fond recollections of having one be my clothing centerpiece while living in a body cast. It’s an excerpt from my upcoming book… Enjoy!

What is a “muumuu”, you ask? The muumuu originates in Hawaii and is a shapeless garment that easily slips over your head and covers your body. In my case, it was from shoulders to ankles. It is a loose-fitting piece of clothing that is absolutely fantastic for those days when you just want to be comfortable. If I could meet the individual who designed that garment, I would give him or her a big solid kiss on the old smacker.

It also is FANTASTIC for body cast wearers. The material is lightweight, which is a key selling point. Seeing that I was carrying around an extra 50 pounds (of plaster), the ease of wearing this garment was a main factor in choosing it.
* Instead of fidgeting with buttons, zippers, snaps or other clothes closing gadgets, you just slip the muumuu over your head.
* It’s easy to maneuver around in. The free flowing structure makes it easy to move as needed without anything bunching up, poking into you and/or needing rearranging. Even though not many body parts can move freely in a body cast, it’s nice to be able to move the ones that have the option available.

My muumuu was beautiful, too. It was effervescent since when in the sunshine, it actually shined. The sun reflected perfectly off of it. The fabric was silk-like and free flowing. The background was a beautiful shade of turquoise. Add to that a number of tropical flowers of varying sizes and vibrant colors, and you get the picture. It was exceptionally eye-appealing and comfortable. If I recall correctly, it had a loose-fitting yolk with two back ties. What more can you ask for while being in a body cast?

The sleeves were made of sheer viola fabric, with ruffles surrounding the wrist area. So, it provided a sense of femininity. Believe me, being in a body cast can undermine any feeling of sexuality. Ha!

The entire muumuu was wrinkle-free..another benefit. Ironing can be a task when your body is free-flowing, let alone when you are confined inside a body cast. There were times when I needed to do some ironing, like when preparing my HUGE jeans for my doctor’s visit trips, so I know. That’s another story, though.

Simply sharing some positive reflections on my effervescent muumuu to help others realize that the proper clothing at the proper time can make a huge difference in both your outlook and comfort levels.
