NHL Update

Update: Nicklas Kronwall of the Detroit Red Wings is out for at least a month due to a MCL injury to his left knee. The injury was a result of the “tripping” by Laraque. I don’t care to know that individual’s first name.

Fact: Players were in the neutral zone. Laraque attempted to hit Kronwall and failed. Upon failing in his hit attempt, Laraque stuck out his knee and leg hitting Kronwall behind the left knee. This move caused a “trip” to Kronwall, who forcefully fell on the ice.

According to NHL Live! (with EJ Hradek and Don LaGreca today!) there is an NHL issue regarding the trip that Laraque had on Niklas Kronwall. As I previously wrote, I disagreed with the “tripping” that Laraque of the Montreal Canadiens did against Kronwall of the Detroit Red Wings.

Laraque was scheduled for an in-person meeting with Colin Campbell of the NHL. Laraque waived his right, so he didn’t have to appear for the face-to-face conference (WHIMP!). Usually, when a meeting is scheduled with Campbell, it is for penalties that result in a five-game suspension.

I think Laraque deserves more than a lousy five-day suspension, if that is what he receives. This sort of play needs to stop. I don’t care what team it occurs on. It is a dirty, cheap shot that does not belong in any level of hockey.
