Healthy Eating Speeds the TKR Recuperation Process

Hi everyone. It’s common knowledge that eating healthy can help everyone. However, this is doubly important for us living with a total knee replacement (tkr). Healthy eating speeds the tkr recuperation process.

So…here are some suggestions for quick, healthy eating that can be prepared at home:

Mix some fresh herbs with freshly squeezed juice for a low calorie dressing.

Squeeze an orange over your salad greens.

Spread some natural peanut or almond butter on an apple.

Enjoy a sandwich of tuna and mustard on wholegrain bread. Add lettuce & tomato, if desired.

Have some fresh fruit mixed with plain yogurt.

Spread some hummus on either pita bread, fresh veggies, or an English muffin.

For creamed soup, substitute pureed tofu for heavy cream.

All of these have worked well for me, and I am confident they’d work well for others. Enjoy!

i love this ccomment. how true. you truly are what you eat. we have to feed our bodies well. especially during a recovery period. i have learned that when i became not as active over the last few years due to my knee surgeries. and my age 49, which changes your weight management. thank you for some new ideas to try. my favorites are the apples and pb and i live on hummus. brushetta on triscuits are great too. keep us posted on any new favorites. take care.

  2. ya know,
I think it is great if you can do it.
but after my knee replacement, I had such nausea that I could barely eat anything.
I could drink milk, and may 1/4 of a hamburger each day. There is no way I could have eaten any of that.
I need to drink my protein with milk.

I am actually 2 months out now, I have having difficulty with pain relief. I have been taken off all narcotics and I am on large doses of Ibpro. The pain I can handle now.
But, I cannot sleep at night at all. I can’t even have a blanket on my knee. It is very hypersensitive to touch.
    any ideas
    Thank you

  3. Hi Brenda,
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your tkr comment. i also responded to your private email.
I experienced the same things you did after my tkr. Still, I ate as healthy as I could.
You may be interested in reading other patient stories about sleeping after a tkr. I wrote a post about not being able to sleep more than two hours a night for 10 months post tkr and received many stories.

  4. Fantastic Read!
I have been a marathon runner all my life. Last year, I underwent Total Knee Replacement Surgery; my Knee Specialist told me that recovery after Total Knee Replacement Surgery is a combination of a good diet, rest and exercise.
